Procedures

YAG Laser
Capsulotomy

Performed personally by Mr Knapp at Minster Medical Practice, Lincoln.

YAG laser capsulotomy is a quick, painless laser treatment to clear the thin membrane behind the lens implant (the posterior capsule), which can become cloudy some time after cataract surgery and cause blurring similar to the original cataract. Using a focused pulse of laser light, a small opening is made in the centre of the capsule to restore a clear visual pathway — with no cutting, no stitches, and no hospital admission required.

What to expect

01
Referral & Booking

An optician referral is required for one-stop YAG laser sessions. Contact Mrs Ruth Page to arrange your appointment. Patients may be seen without a referral, but this will incur an additional appointment and fees.

02
Arrival & Drops

On arrival, dilating drops will be applied to your eye. Please arrange a lift as your vision may be temporarily affected for several hours after treatment. You cannot drive after your procedure.

03
The Procedure

You will be seated at a slit lamp. The procedure itself takes only a few minutes. Mr Knapp will perform the treatment personally — there are no incisions or injections.

04
Recovery

Most patients notice improved vision within a few hours. You may experience some floaters initially — these typically settle over a few weeks.
